Monday 19th January is Martin Luther King Day.
This months prompts and playlists newsletter has taken inspiration from these events. (with some artistic licence).
This month’s prompt word is ‘Why’.

Why can’t I see you as you
and you see me as me?
Knowing that on some things
we simply won’t agree.
Why can’t we accept
that people live and love their way?
How can we ever think that
hate is something that’s ok?
The line prompt is ‘We cannot live’ which is the title of a poem from My Father’s Daughter.
We cannot live consumed by fear
That is no way to live
We hold on to the ones held dear
And give what we can give
We set about our daily lives
Though none would call us brave
What would we do? Where would we run?
To safety or to save?
My words are easy from this place
Where I feel safe and sure
I do not know what you've gone through
Or still have to endure
I can turn off the radio
Or turn off my tv
I can put the papers down
It's just more news to me
And yet somehow it touches us
It's felt both far and wide
Thankful we can just carry on
We say we're on your side
We stand with you united
There is no other place to be
We are in this together
We hope that you will see
We're proud of you who carry on
And do what you must do
How would I be in your shoes?
I haven't got a clue

In the streets and towns and cites
people holding onto hope.
As peace flies out the window
there has to be some way to cope.
The wheels of history show us
life has many a twisting road.
Sometimes we find it isn’t easy
for us to carry our own load.
We know one thing for certain
not sure where it’s coming from
but one way or another
a change is gonna come.
